Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle holistic therapy that encourages the body to work naturally and restore its own healthy balance. It is not a therapy used to diagnose illness, nor is it a medical treatment and does not cure – only the body can do that. It facilitates healing within the body. There are around 7,000 nerve endings in the human foot and each of these is a reflex point relating to a body part. A reflexologist uses special finger and thumb manipulations to stimulate reflex points, which will stimulate the flow of energy to the corresponding body part. This gradually helps to re-establish homeostasis and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself, physically and emotionally.

Why Reflexology?

Your feet and hands are maps of the body and reflexology works by applying pressure to certain areas on the feet known as reflexes, to gently stimulate the corresponding eight systems and organs of the body. This brings them back into balance and the body is assisted in being able to heal itself. All ages and may bring relief from a range of acute and chronic conditions. It induces relaxation and a sense of wellbeing by stimulating nerve endings in the feet.

Benefits

Reflexology can bring relief from digestive disorders, stress-related conditions, fertility issues and sleep disorders. It triggers a release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel good” chemicals and inhibits stress hormones by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system.

Additional Information

A foot reflexology session usually lasts about an hour. There is no need to get undressed as it only requires that shoes and socks are removed. The first session will include an initial consultation to assess your present and past medical history and lifestyle.
