More about Reflexology:
Reflexology is rooted in the ancient Chinese belief in qi - vital energy that flows through each person. When you experience stress, illness or imbalance, this energy can become blocked. Through specific finger and thumb manipulations applied to reflex points on your feet (and sometimes hands), a reflexologist works to stimulate the flow of energy to corresponding body parts, gradually helping to re-establish homeostasis and supporting your body's natural ability to heal itself, both physically and emotionally.
There are around 7,000 nerve endings in each human foot, and each of these connects to a reflex point relating to a specific body part or system. By applying pressure to these areas, reflexology is believed to help increase your parasympathetic response - that relaxation state where your body can focus on self-healing and balance. Your feet and hands are maps of the body, with each zone corresponding to the body's eight major systems and organs. When pressure is applied to these reflex areas, the corresponding parts of your body are gently stimulated and brought back into balance.
Who can benefit?
Reflexology welcomes people of all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Many people find it particularly effective for tackling various symptoms and reducing pain levels. People often seek reflexology for digestive disorders, stress-related conditions, fertility concerns and sleep disturbances. The practice triggers the release of endorphins - your body's natural "feel good" chemicals - while helping to inhibit stress hormones by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system. This induces deep relaxation and a sense of wellbeing, while encouraging your body's natural healing processes.
What to expect in your session:
A foot reflexology session usually lasts an hour, and there's no need to undress - you'll simply remove your shoes and socks. Your first session will include an initial consultation to assess your present and past medical history and lifestyle, helping your reflexologist tailor the treatment to your specific needs.
It's important to understand that reflexology is not used to diagnose illness, nor is it a medical treatment that cures conditions. Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works alongside, rather than replacing, conventional medical care. Only your body can truly heal itself - reflexology simply facilitates and supports that natural healing process by helping to restore balance and remove blockages to your body's energy flow.
Many people leave feeling deeply relaxed, with a heightened sense of wellbeing and renewed energy. Some notice improvements in specific symptoms over a series of treatments, while others simply appreciate the profound relaxation and time to focus on their own health and balance.
