Book Club
First Monday of the month*
There's something rather wonderful about gathering with fellow readers to share thoughts about a good book.

More about Book Club:
Book clubs increase social connection, which combats loneliness. Sharing thoughts and opinions can improve social skills, build confidence and improve self-esteem. They're platforms for growth - intellectual, personal and social - create good reading habits, build social networks and stimulate mental growth.
Why join our Book Club?
Reading is a workout for the mind, stimulating our cognitive faculties and expanding our intellectual horizons. The brain is a muscle that needs exercise, and reading coupled with thoughtful discussion provides exactly that. Mentally stimulating tasks like reading help to preserve memory and thinking skills, potentially keeping dementia and Alzheimer's at bay. But it's not all about brain training - reading can also lower blood pressure, improve mood and even increase your empathy levels. It relaxes your body and takes you out of the stresses and strains of daily life.
Book club conversations encourage critical thinking and intellectual curiosity by having participants analyse themes, characters and symbolism. Through meaningful discussion and debate, readers develop fresh perspectives and ideas, promoting personal growth and self-discovery. Books often tell stories that reflect real-life situations, allowing readers to see their feelings and experiences mirrored in the characters' lives, offering therapeutic comfort and helping to process emotions.
What to expect:
Our Book Club is open to anyone who enjoys reading. You can drop in and chat about books you've read, hear about other books that might end up on your reading list, and browse titles from our informative and exciting lending library. Come and enjoy refreshments while discussing literature in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Led by Margaret Bowley (Dip. Lib. MCLIP), our Book Club provides a safe space where everyone's thoughts and opinions are valued. Self-disclosure - sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences with others - has been linked to improved psychological resilience. Whether you read contemporary fiction, historical novels, memoirs or something entirely different, you'll find a warm welcome here.
Anyone visiting YouNique is encouraged to take advantage of our lending library - a carefully curated collection of books across various genres, all available to borrow.
Not sure if this class is for you? Send us a message and we’ll get back to you.
